A Brief History: Descending From OG Kush
A long-time favorite of cannabis enthusiasts, sour diesel is the product of an opportune mix of plants stemming from seeds purchased at a concert. The story goes the seeds were bought at a 1991 Grateful Dead concert in Colorado before being distributed throughout the East Coast for further development. Combining the seeds with Chemdawg plant’s and later on Super Skunk, the Sour Diesel strain was formed, as well as OG Kush.
Two of the most infamous strains were created and continue to flourish in markets across the states today. Since the history of the strain is murky and passed down through many people we don’t know for sure if this was the exact chain of events. There are many rumors of other strains being added into the mix throughout the years before the final Sour Diesel strain was concocted.
Whatever the process, we ended up with the magical mixture that is today’s Sour Diesel strain.
Genetics Revealed
A child of the hybrid Chemdawg strain and Indica strain Super Skunk, Sour Diesel is a strong sativa dominant strain that has gained popularity with the masses. Some believe that the origins also include hints of Northern Lights and Hawaiian undertones.
Sour Diesel contains a fairly high THC content of around nineteen to twenty-five percent on average, providing an excellent strong head high. Small amounts of myrcene, pinene, and limonene terpenes add a citrus scent and flavor to the strain as well. The notorious diesel fuel smell is where the strain derives its name from and makes it easy to tell if you are dealing with the unmistakable strain.
