Mary Mart Dispensary Presents Our Favorite Holiday Events in Tacoma

Tacoma is a scrappy kind of town, and Fall’s early darkness, wet, and cold have never put a damper on its holiday celebrations. In addition to having once hosted—possibly—the nation’s tallest Christmas tree, Tacoma lays out a spread of fun-filled holiday events every year. Here’s our tip-top list of holiday events in Tacoma; if you’re feeling a deficit of warm sentiments this season, may we suggest a more herbal form of holiday cheer?

Can’t Miss 2017 Holiday Events in Tacoma

Tacoma Annual Holiday Tree Lighting
The lighting of Tacoma’s giant Christmas tree has been a city tradition for the last century, if not longer. The Broadway Center has hosted the event since the end of World War II. Bask in the glow of a truly gigantic—as in 50-plus feet high—conifer, and be dazzled by countless tiny, glimmering lights.
When: November 25, 5:30 pm
Where: Broadway Center for the Performing Arts

Pet Photos with Santa
What says “Merry Christmas” or “Happy Hannukah” better than a stately photo of your confused cat or dog sitting on Santa’s lap? Stop by Tacoma Mall with your furry friend to make some one-of-a-kind photographic memories.
When: December 10, 7pm
Where: Tacoma Mall

The Nutcracker and the Tale of the Hard Nut
This beloved ballet is a holiday tradition worldwide, and Tacoma City Ballet presents an enchanting holiday fantasy in music and dance.
When: Select dates, December 15 – 23
Where: Federal Way Performing Arts Center

Indigo Frozen Fountain at Point Ruston
In years previous this rink was sited in Tollefson Plaza, but in an effort to improve the skating experience the “Polar Plaza” now moves to Point Ruston. There’ll be lots of lights and promises of fun seasonal decorations to spice up this classic wintertime pursuit.
When: November 10 until early New Year
Where: Point Ruston Grand Plaza

In addition, the larger South Sound region boasts other skating opportunities. Here’s a list of venues ranging from Bellevue to Renton and beyond.

The Christmas Revels
Each year, Puget Sound Revels presents a fun and fascinating trip back in time via traditional song, storytelling, and dance. This year’s journey takes us to northern Spain and the Camino de Santiago, a 9th-century pilgrims’ route winding through the epic Pyrenees Mountains. It’s a warm and immersive holiday tradition!
When: December 16 – 20
Where: Rialto Theater, Broadway Center

Lights! Lights!
Of course, the early dark of the Northwest holiday season brings a reward in the fun-filled displays certain neighborhoods and commercial centers put on each year. One of our favorites is Fantasy Lights, billed as “the largest holiday drive-through display in the Northwest,” located at Spanaway Park. It’s hands-down one of the favorite holiday events in Tacoma!
When: November 23 – January 1
Where: Spanaway Park

Further afield, here are some regional light shows and events you might want to hit as well.
